About

Vivekanand Jha graduated from Patna Medical College, Patna, did his postgraduate training in Medicine and Nephrology from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI), Chandigarh, India and a basic science Fellowship at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston. He has been on the faculty of Nephrology at the PGI since 1992. His research interests have encompassed all fields of nephrology and transplantation, including clinical research in tropical acute and chronic kidney diseases, post-transplant infections, and pharmacogenetics of immunosuppressive drug therapy. He is currently investigating the role of genetic polymorphisms in kidney diseases and pharmacogenomics of transplantation with a view to individualize and reduce the cost of immunosuppression, and is  developing a facility for translational research in regenerative medicine.

Dr Jha is the Secretary of the Indian Society of Nephrology, Councilor and Executive Committee member of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN), an Editor of the Cochrane Renal Group, Subject Editor of Nephrology (official Journal of the Asian Pacific Society of Nephrology) and Deputy Editor of the Indian Journal of Nephrology. He is the Co-chair of the Education Subcommittee of ISN; member of Education Committees of The Transplantation Society and International Society of Peritoneal Dialysis, and Executive member of the Asian Forum of Chronic Kidney Disease. He is a member of the Stem Cell and Chronic Disease Biology task Forces of the Department of Biotechnology of the Government of India.  He works with NGOs to provide preventive healthcare to populations living in remote areas.

He has published over 150 papers, written over 30 chapters in Textbooks and given Invited Talks in major International and National meetings. He is a Section Editor of the Oxford Textbook of Clinical Nephrology and reviewer for a large number of journals.
